On January 17, 2025, a delegation from TRAKYA UNIVERSITY in Edirne, Republic of Turkey, visited Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen.
The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Natalia Vitanova, Dr. Habil, Rector of Shumen University and her deputies Assoc. Prof. Konstantin Konstantinov, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Irina Ivanova, PhD and Assoc. Prof. Stanimir Zhelezov, PhD. Representing Trakya University the visiting delegation included Prof. Mustafa Hatipler, Dr. Habil, the Rector of the partner university and his deputies Prof. Ahmet Muzaffer Demir, PhD, Prof. Mustafa Tan, PhD, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Sedat Yustündag, PhD, the Chief Physician of the University Hospital Prof. Alkin Cholak, PhD and the Director of the Centre for International Relations Senior Asst. Rifat Gürgendereli, PhD.
The meeting focused on key areas for collaboration, activating the long-standing bilateral cooperation between the universities, including joint projects, student and faculty mobility, and academic partnerships. Several representatives from Shumen University took part in the discussions, including the Dean of the Faculty of Education Assoc. Prof. Rositsa Mihaylova, PhD and her deputies Prof. Snezhanka Dobreva, PhD and Prof. Penka Kozhuharova, PhD. The Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Assoc. Prof. Desislava Cheshmedzhieva-Stoycheva, PhD, the Head of the Department of Bulgarian Language Assoc. Prof. Ivo Bratanov, PhD, Assoc. Prof. Menent Shukrieva, PhD and Senior Lecturer Bülent Kırcalı from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, Valeria Ivanova, PhD, Director of the Center for International Relations, and Kamen Andonov, PhD, Director of the University Press Center.
Prof. Vitanova proposed forming a joint working group between the two universities. The proposal was accepted by all participants. A working group will be formed from the two universities to outline steps for realizing the intentions. The first of these will be the participation of a group of students from Shumen University in the First Balkan Interuniversity Folk Dance Competition. The event is organized by Trakya University in Edirne and will take place from February 5- 9, 2025.
The second step involves the publication of a Bulgarian language textbook for Turkish speakers, being written by Assoc. Prof. Menent Shukrieva, PhD, and Lecturer Fikrie Mehmed from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature. The publication will serve as a main educational resource for students in the “Translatology with Bulgarian Language” program at Trakya University in Edirne.
