    The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science was established in 1971

    The mission and the objectives of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science correspond to the higher education values and demands. The Faculty aims at educating highly qualified specialists for the labour market needs in Bulgaria. The Faculty alumni acquire fundamental and profound knowledge in Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics and Information Technologies.

    The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science offers the following Bachelor Degree Programmes: Mathematics, Computer Science, Methods of Teaching Mathematics and Computer Science and Economy. In October 2003 The National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency has awarded Mathematics and Computer Science majors with the highest grade for the maximum period of five years. The Bachelor and Master Degrees Programmes in Economics have been accredited in 2007 for the period of six years. The National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency has awarded the major with “Good” Grade. The Methods of Teaching Mathematics has also been accredited for the period of six years in 2008. The Bachelor and Master Degree Programmes in Methods of Teaching Mathematics major have been awarded with “Very Good” Grade.  

    The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science offer education in the following Doctoral Degree Programmes: Mathemateical Analysis, Algebra and Numerical Theory,

    Informatics, Mathematical Computation, Economics, Methods of Teaching Mathematics and Computer Science. The Faculty staff and the students participate in various scientific and educational projects.

    The Faculty offers the following Master Degree Programmes: Economic Informatics, System Administration, Analysis, Algebra, Marketing, Methods of Teaching Mathematics, Business management.

    There are 29 habilitated lecturers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science. There are also 14 Doctors of Science and 19 non-habilitated lecturers. The Faculty includes the following departments: Mathematical Analysis, Algebra and Geometry, Computer Informatics, Computer Systems and Technologies, Economics and Modelling and Methods of Teaching Mathematics and Computer Science..

    The Faculty equipment has been significantly renewed during the last two years. The education process is conduct in Building 3 of Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen. The Faculty administration also works in Building 3. The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science has 7 computer labs, Internet Centre, an educational computer museum, seminar halls. The academic staff within the Faculty disposes of 18 offices. The seminars are conducted in laboratories equipped with the latest innovations in technology. The laboratories are equipped with multimedia and high speed Internet connection is available. Apart from using computer laboratories during seminars, students are allowed free access to computer-aided laboratories.

    There are laboratories within the Faculty structure where students and the academic staff are able to make researches on Computer Networks, Computer Security, and Mathematical Modelling as well as on other fields of science. Doctoral students dispose of personal computers and there is a laboratory equipped only for Doctoral students` researches.

    The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science has developed A System for Quality Assurance in Implementation of Modern Methods in Teaching Process and Students` Assessment. The System is developed in accordance with ISO : 9001 – 2000.
